Hello,

Ours is not a remarkable story.  It is, however, the very ‘un-remarkableness’ that makes it unique because so many people can relate to it.

You see, we, probably like you, had heard about alpacas and were curious about these "strange cousins to the llamas".  We looked into several business options and had even tried two different ventures.  We wanted to find something that we could do together and that would satisfy our financial requirements, but would, at the same time also give us the kind of lifestyle that we were looking for.

Dick had worked for a large corporation for 35 years and knew all about the world of corporation pressure and politics.  While his job was not in jeopardy at the time he did feel that he needed to have a plan in mind in case the rumors of downsizing became a reality.  We also realized that the mid-fifties is not the ideal age to go looking for employment in case the worst should happen.  He wanted to be able to retire, but we both knew that we wanted to maintain our present lifestyle.

We first fell in love with the beauty, grace and gentleness of alpacas.  Being in a herd of alpacas and hearing that wonderful hum for the first time is an experience we will never forget!  We began our inquiry stage and learned so much!  Upon investigating the financial possibilities of raising alpacas and learning about how healthy and hardy they are we were very impressed.  After we consulted with a financial advisor and tax expert we made the decision to purchase our first alpacas in the spring of 1996.  Just a few months of raising and living with our alpacas was enough to convince us that this was the best thing we ever did.  We love breeding and raising our alpacas and then having the fiber to sell or use for ourselves.  It is a very fulfilling process and one that we enjoy.

We feel very comfortable encouraging people who come to our farm to “get into alpacas”.  We know what a satisfying lifestyle raising these beautiful animals has given us and we are happy to help other people find the same satisfaction.

The very best way to learn about alpacas is to visit an alpaca farm.  Alpacas are easy keepers and can be raised on small acreage. We can truly say that raising and breeding alpacas is a very rewarding lifestyle. You are cordially invited to visit our farm and see these gentle creatures for yourself.  Call or e-mail today and schedule your visit!

Is breeding and selling alpacas for everyone?  Of course not!  But if you like animals, like people, and have a desire to live a more basic lifestyle, then it may be for you.

Foxrun Farms specializes in breeding high quality alpacas for  their fine fleece, conformation and disposition.  We are located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Central New York just 25 minutes from Syracuse and about 55 minutes from Rochester with easy access to I-90.  We take special pride in offering quality alpacas with full reproductive guarantees including a live birth through 30 days. Attractive financing terms are available. Please contact us if you are considering an alpaca purchase.  Inquiries and farm visits are always welcome.

Our services include breeding, boarding, brokering, marketing, pre-purchase consulting and planning.  We believe the alpaca’s unique, incredibly soft durable fiber will ensure the long-term viability of the North American alpaca market.  Our aim is for continued improvement of the domestic herd and to support an alpaca textile industry that will sustain alpaca breeders well into the next century.

Foxrun Farms Alpacas is proud to be a New York member of the I Love Alpacas breeder co-op. All members agree to uphold the highest standards of customer service, support and ethics in the alpaca industry to be able to remain a member of the "I Love Alpacas co-op".
